Buzzards Bay Village: Bourne’s Year-Round Dining Center

Mezza Luna, on Main Street in Buzzards Bay, is the single best-documented restaurant story in Bourne. It began in 1937 as a fruit stand run by Speranza Cubellis, was grown into a full-service Italian restaurant by her son Emilio over more than 50 years, and is now owned and operated by Emilio's son, EJ Cubellis — three generations of the same family on the same stretch of Main Street. A seven-alarm fire destroyed the original building in October 2007; Cubellis rebuilt from the ground up over roughly 16 months and kept staff on payroll throughout. In 2023 the Retailers Association of Massachusetts named Mezza Luna its statewide Restaurant of the Year at the group's 24th annual awards, with RAM president Jon Hurst singling out the Cubellis family's rebuild. Main Street also holds Mahoney's on Main (57 Main St), an Irish-leaning American gastropub known for Reuben sandwiches, fried cauliflower, and maple old-fashioneds, and Buzzards Bay House of Pizza (270 Main St), which its own site describes as serving the Buzzards Bay area for "over 30 years" — a real longevity claim we could not independently pin to an exact opening year. A short drive out on MacArthur Boulevard, Stir Crazy (570 MacArthur Blvd) has served Cambodian, Thai, and Japanese-influenced food, including sushi, since 1989 by its own account, making it one of the longer-running non-Italian, non-seafood kitchens in town.

Cataumet: Marina Dining and a Closed Coffee House

Cataumet's best-known restaurant sits inside Kingman Yacht Center on Red Brook Harbor: the Chart Room, a waterfront boater bar and restaurant reachable by hailing the marina on VHF channel 9/68, marketed as having been voted the Cape's top boater bar and known for its mudslides. Kingman Yacht Center is the same Cataumet marina whose own blog post is this site's sole, uncorroborated source for Bourne's Hurricane Carol (1954) storm-damage history elsewhere on this site — that storm history isn't dining content and isn't repeated here, but it's worth knowing the Chart Room and that source share a landlord. Courtyard Restaurant and Bar, also in Cataumet, bills itself simply as an American restaurant and bar; its site did not yield verifiable details on history, ownership, or price range beyond a phone number, so it's named here without embellishment rather than padded with invented specifics.

For coffee and casual food, Local Grounds Coffee House + Cafe (1370 Route 28A) is a family-owned, dog-friendly spot serving coffee, bagels, breakfast sandwiches, and acai bowls. Notably, Cataumet Coffee House, a previously-listed cafe at 1337 County Road, now shows as closed on Yelp — exactly the kind of turnover that makes any static restaurant list risky, and we're flagging the closure rather than silently listing a business that may no longer exist.

Monument Beach and Pocasset: A Brand-New Spot and a Longtime Cafe

Monument Beach's dining scene is thin and, by the numbers, changing: Taste & Tide, at 18 Beach Street, opened in late June 2025 — recent enough that early Tripadvisor reviews describe it as having "just opened last week." It serves a casual menu (fried calamari, specialty sandwiches, Buffalo pizza) and did not yet have a liquor license as of those reviews. Because it's this new, treat any characterization of it here as a snapshot rather than an established reputation.

In Pocasset, the Corner Cafe (369 Barlows Landing Rd) is a breakfast-and-lunch spot with dozens of Yelp reviews for homemade muffins, breakfast sandwiches, and daily soups — a more conventional, longer-standing neighborhood cafe than Taste & Tide. We also found references to a "Talk of the Town Diner" listed under Pocasset on some platforms, but a similarly named diner also turns up under Falmouth on others, and we couldn't resolve with confidence whether these are the same business, a chain, or two unrelated diners — so it's flagged as unresolved rather than asserted as a real Pocasset business.

Sagamore: A Nearly Century-Old Italian Restaurant on Route 6A

The Sagamore Inn, at 1131 Sandwich Road (Route 6A), has real, sourced depth: it operated as a speakeasy during Prohibition in the 1920s, was run by the Bianco family from the late 1930s into the late 1960s, and closed temporarily around 2008 before reopening under new owners Mike and Suzanne Bilodeau. It's a casual Italian dining room — homemade lasagna, chicken cacciatore, fried clams, baked stuffed lobster — that draws mostly local families and older couples rather than passing tourists, per a Boston-focused restaurant blog (hiddenboston.com) that covered its reopening. That's a single detailed source for the ownership timeline, so treat the exact handoff dates as approximate rather than certified.

Canal-Side Seafood and Gray Gables: The Real Gap in This Research

The Lobster Trap, at 290 Shore Road near the canal's Buzzards Bay-side entrance, started as a fish market in 1969 and later added a full-service seafood restaurant with a patio overlooking Buzzards Bay — Roadfood, a respected independent food-writing outlet, and multiple review platforms both describe it as a busy, valet-parking, summer-crowded spot known for steamers and fried whole-belly clam rolls. The Bog Tavern, at 11 Brigadoone Road, operates out of Brookside Golf Club with an American pub menu (pork wings, tuna tacos, flatbreads) and regular live music; we could not confidently place either of these within one specific named village, so they're presented here as Bourne-wide rather than pinned to a village they may not belong to.

Gray Gables itself is the honest gap in this research: the only food business we could verify there is Gray Gables Market (183 Shore Road), a deli and market selling made-to-order sandwiches, salads, and breakfast items — real, useful, and confirmed at a Bourne address, but not a sit-down restaurant. Some listing sites confusingly geocode this same market under "Buzzards Bay" or even "Sandwich," which is itself a small example of how unreliable aggregator geography can be for a village this small. If a genuine sit-down restaurant operates in Gray Gables proper, this research didn't surface it, and we're not going to invent one to fill the section.
